Overnight camping is not allowed on any San Diego beaches
throughout the county. Lifeguards are stationed at city
beaches in the summertime, but coverage in winter is provided
by roving patrols only. Leashed dogs are permitted on most
San Diego beaches and adjacent parks from 6pm to 9am; they
can run unleashed anytime at Dog Beach at the north end
of Ocean Beach and at River mouth in Del Mar.
Pay attention to signs listing prohibited activities; police
often patrol the beaches, glass is prohibited on all beaches,
all fires are allowed only in fire rings or elevated barbecue
grills. Alcoholic beverages, including beer are completely
banned on some city beaches; others allow you to partake
from 8am to 8pm. Check out the signs posted in the parking
lots, and at all lifeguard towers, before you hit the beach.
